SOCCER ball kept getting popularity in the world in the 1920s. This makes the world football authority, FIFA, began to dream how to hold international football tournament that has a big influence.

The FIFA’s chair man,   Jules Rimet, had entered football in the Olympic in 1924 and won by Uruguay. However, the echoes still not great. Besides, conflict arises who will organize the tournament, FIFA or the International Olympic Committee (IOC).

International football competition in 1924 was actually a success. So, FIFA tried to make their own tournament in 1928 with Hungarian as hosts. However, However, only a few that interested, and only four teams that performed so that it can be said, “ fail”.

Jules Rimet then sent the Secretary General of the French Football Federation (FFF), Henri Delauney. He also began scheming a huge tournament. And, in 1930 the dream finally come true. First World Cup was held in Uruguay.

Why Uruguay? The reason, because the state’s defending champion Olympic football branch. In addition, during the year to coincide with 100 years of independence of Uruguay and the country will celebrate a grand scale.

To hold the world cup, Uruguay made a serious preparation. They built a giant stadium in the capital of Montevideo. It’s called “Estadio Centenario” with 95,000 audiences capacity.

This great work was delayed due to heavy rains. Up to 5 days before the opening on July 13, 1930, the construction of the stadium was not completed correctly. However, the stadium was eventually still can be used to held the greatest  football’s world cup.

Unfortunately, many countries choose to  refused to appear at the first World Cup. The reason, they do not want to waste time on the ship to Uruguay. That was reasonable,because at the time, the sea transport is more dominant than aircraft.

Strong teams such as Italy, the Netherlands, England, and Spain chose absent, a result, there are only four teams coming from Europe, namely France, Yugoslavia, Romanian, and Belgium.In fact, the presence of Romania must be collected directly by King Carol in order to participate.

However, many strong teams from America like to  come, such as Mexico, Argentina, United States, Chile, Bolivia, Brazil, and Paragua. Including host Uruguay, World Cup 1930 was followed by 13 teams. French- Mexican party was the first opening game with a 4-1 for French victory.

July 30, 1930 was the most historic moment in football. The first World Cup finals match bring argentina and. Watched by 93,000 audience, the game was very exciting and impressive. Uruguay was finally appears as the first World Cup championship.
